Where I give you tips and tricks for everything soccer. In today’s episode, We will discuss how to get back into shape after time off from the game. Everyone else will tell you what they think, here at Perfect Soccer, we tell you what we know. After a long season in the MLS, your body is tired, and you need a break. Once you have your break and get the well-deserved rest, you understand you have to get back in shape for the upcoming season, and this is difficult at times. Being in shape is non-negotiable. Soccer players have to be able to jog, sprint, jump, tackle, kick, etc. The demand on your body is intense, and you have to prepare your body in a way to sustain the rigor. What I see recently with players is they’re not fit and cannot keep concentration for 90 minutes. When you’re not in shape, you tire quicker. When players get tired, they find themselves making more mistakes because they’re not focused. I want to help you get back in shape, so let’s jump into the 3 tips to get back in shape and play at your highest level Key Takeaways: 1. Start Easing Yourself back into the regiment - I’m always talking about growth over time and that things won’t happen overnight. The same idea holds true when you’re getting back into shape. It’s not going to happen, and you’re going to have to sacrifice if you want to be great and get back in form. Start with doing 3 specific fitness exercises that will push you to about 60% of your max. A 30-minute run is a great place to start or longer striding sprints of 30 yards or more, just to open the legs and get back into the swing of things. Next Week 70% of your max and shorten the time of the run to 20 minutes since you’re going faster. Week 3 you should be 80% of your max, and 15-minute runs will do the trick. Week 4 should be close to 100 % of your max, and the run can be as long as you can keep a fast pace. You should also sprinkle in some of the fitness Friday workouts I do. These are workouts that will work on all types of muscles and will be good for your fitness levels. In Soccer, having a strong core is beneficial and necessary for balance, strength, and movement on the field. 2. Hydrate and Eat Clean - While putting yourself through rigorous workouts, you have to be mindful of taking care of your body to recover. If you’re eating bread, candy, fried foods, and drinking soda, you’re doing yourself a disservice. What you put in your body is what you get out. Eating vegetables, fruits, chicken, avocado, whole grains, drinking water, etc. will give you the nutrients needed to perform at your best. Commit to being a professional even when you aren’t. Have a mindset of making sacrifices and treating your game with serious dedication. 3. Extra Fitness - After practice, you need to work on your fitness too. Whenever you have time, put in the extra work. Putting in the extra work is what is required to eclipse other players out there. Work harder than everyone if you want to achieve your goals.
