'** Any humor is unintentional ** Business Lessons from the Brittany Dawn Fitness Scandal 1. Only sell what you can fulfill. Scaling a business is hard and having to scale a business that promises personalization is way harder. Make sure you can keep any promises you\'re making to your customers and if it gets too hard, it is ok to stop taking on new customers until you get better. 2. If you sell a product or service then you need to have a refund policy. Your refund policy should be easy for customers to find, easy for them to read and understand, and easy for them to execute should the need arise. Don\'t make elaborate requirements or ask customers to delete negative reviews, comments, or social media posts as requirement to get their refund. Side note: As of right now, even after all the claims that she\'s a scammer, Brittany still doesn\'t have a refund policy on her website. Whoever is advising her is failing horribly. 3. Big online companies get away with sucking at customer service, but you probably can\'t. For some reason since the dawn of the internet large online companies have ignored customer service and instead focused on building useful and unique product suites and/or trapping consumers in a web-like ecosystem. Try talking to an actual customer service rep for Google or Facebook and you\'ll see what I mean. Small businesses simply don\'t get that luxury, especially ones built around a personal \"influencer\" brand. Make customer service a priority and constantly work to improve in that area and you\'ll come out ahead of your competition. 4. A big trend today is flaunting or faking an extravagant lifestyle online in order to build up a following. I\'m not here to judge, if that\'s how you\'re marketing and building your business, that\'s ok. Just know that if things go wrong most people aren\'t going to have sympathy for you, don\'t believe me? Watch one of the Fyre Fest documentaries then tell me you feel bad for the CEO or even Jerry Media. This makes taking care of your customers and making sure your product or service is matching what you promise even more important to a successful, healthy business. 5. Your business troubles are the gains of your competition pretty much every time. If you\'re wondering why you shouldn\'t do awful things to your customers and are finding it hard to be empathetic, then consider that your actions will help your competition gain more customers and will hurt your own business. Don\'t give your competitors that advantage. I promise you competitors of hers are probably having really good weeks in terms of sales or lead generation all because of how she treated others for so long. “If you’re going to compete with me or one of my businesses, you’d better recognize that I’m working 24 hours a day to kick your ass.” - Mark Cuban Have no clue what this scandal is?
