21 Day Fix Extreme Review and Results

I am NOT a beach body coach. That said, I’ve been doing beach body programs for several years, so I’m used to the idea of the home workout programs. I didn’t drink Shakeology. Nothing against it, I actually like it, but I had a huge tub of protein powder and decided that was good enough for this program.  I took my measurements and my weight at the start of the program and I haven’t weighed or measured myself since.  But first, a little back story. - I used to be fat. Really fat. At my largest I was around 270lbs.  To make a long story short, I realized I needed to make a change and I started working out. I did a few rounds of P90X and got down to about 200lbs. - Roughly a 70lb weight loss. I did pretty well at maintaining that weight for a while, but started getting slack and then one day realized I was back up to 240lb.  I’d promised myself I wouldn’t be that big again, but somehow it had snuck up on me. So I hit the play button again. This time I focused primary on weight training. I did two rounds of bodybeast and got to about 195lb. Which I was super excited about. Not only had I broken 200lb for the first time. But because of the weight training, at 195lb I looked substantially better than 200lb did when I had been at my previous low weight.   Between the slack eating and the lack of really working out during the Christmas season, I gained back some weight.   So that’s where I started the new year. Back up to 211lbs and I thought, Nope, Nada, Negative. Not going to get slack. I’m getting back on track and I’m finishing my journey.   My wife wanted to do a different program this time, just something quick to get us back into our routine and nutrition plan. 21 Day fix extreme seemed to fit the bill well.   It’s 7 workouts that you repeat for 3 weeks. Each workout is about 30 minutes give or take a minute or 2. Which is great for getting it knocked out quickly. As opposed to a Bodybeast workout which can be almost an hour.  Now they start you off with plyometrics, which is in my nearly worthless opinion the hardest of all the workout.  It’s followed up with upper body the next day, then Pilates, then a grueling 3 days of Legs, Cardio (which is like legs 2.0) and then dirty 30, which is like cardio legs….  So needless to say, I spent most of the first week in pain. It wasn’t fun. At all. I enjoyed knowing I was getting back into shape, but I hated the burn and pain and trying to sit, or stand, or walk. Really moving anything was torture.   Luckily you finish off the week with yoga, which is a great active recovery option and it stretched everything out and by the start of Plyo on the second week, I felt good to go again.  The second week was much better. I’d like to say easier, but it’s not. The program is designed to make you give it your all, so if your feeling better you’re just going to work harder or take less breaks. So it wasn’t easier, but it was better.  The Third week, seemed to blast by. Though my schedule made a few days challenging and I had to do my workouts pretty late at night. By the end of the third week I felt and looked better. I also could clearly notice a change in how my clothes fit.  The other major part of 21 Day fix is the nutrition. They give you containers to put your food in and tell you exactly how many of each container you can have. It’s actually a great system for learning portions and proper food ratios without having to learn all about macros. - I didn’t use it.   I’ve done enough of these programs and knew what I needed that it was just easier for me to track the same ratio of macros using MyFitness pal. - I was eating 1750 calories a day. Just incase you wanted to know.  OK, so now that all that’s out of the way. Let’s see how I did. I took my measurements and my weight at the start of the program and I haven’t weighed or measured myself since. So this is just as much of a surprise for me as it is for you…..  I’m pretty happy with the results, after all it was only 3 weeks. It was a great way to jump back into my fitness and get back on track.  So if you’re looking to drop a few pounds and inches, maybe for a wedding or hitting the beach this summer, it’s a good place to start, but you’ll probably need 2 or 3 rounds to make major changes.
