'Within the fitness industry there are many different niches, one in which being athlete development. I spoke with Andy McCloy, who has 20 years of expertise in the athlete development business, about his tips for success while maintaining a niche focus. When you find your passion, there will be bumps along the road trying to steer you off course. To succeed, you need to maintain your focus and adapt to overcome the challenges around you. Andy shared 3 tips that have allowed him to succeed in a business that many people tend to drop out from. 1. Offset Seasonality with Adults Andy\'s main focus is athlete development. But with such a niche focus comes seasonality. There is value in having diversification in your clientele. Catering to adults as well helps to offset the seasonal issues associated with athletes. 2. Don\'t Put All of Your Eggs in One Basket With athlete development, many facilities place their full focus on one sport. Similarly to the 1st tip, having an array of expertise in many sports can also help offset seasonality. 3. Be a Local Legend This means develop community relationships. For example, Andy has hosted numerous free camps of his athletic training expertise. This lets the community experience his quality, knowledge, and character first hand - something digital marketing cannot do.
